How to Clean Memory Foam

There are many great benefits of using memory foam, but from time-to-time we recommend cleaning them to help keep the memory foam in a healthy condition so it can continue to be comfortable and supportive. The Panda Bamboo fabrics are naturally hypoallergenic, however cleaning your memory foam mattress topper and or Panda Pillow does help to eliminate any dust mites, bacteria, allergens and odours that can build up over time.

Cleaning memory foam is much easier than most people think. We recommend setting aside a day to clean the item(s) (most of the time is needed for drying). Before you start cleaning, remember to not soak the memory foam, as this can caused permanent water damage which is not covered by our 10-Year Guarantee.

Getting Ready to Clean Memory Foam

Your memory foam pillow or mattress topper should always be clean by hand, using excessive amounts of water or a washing machine will destroy the memory foam. Simply remove the Panda Bamboo Cover, then place the memory foam on the floor. Check it for any stains. Be prepared to leave the memory foam in a cool room with either the window open and or a fan. This helps the memory foam to ‘breathe’.

Items You Will Need:

1, Vacumm Cleaner

2, Water bottle spray

3, Clean cloth

4, Baking Soda

5, Laundry Detergent (ideally eco-friendly & suitable for hand washing)

Step One. Simple Cleaning

Vacuuming and Cleaning Memory Foam

The first step in cleaning memory foam is to vacuum it. Use a handheld vacuum if possible, working with a soft brush. Using circular motions to pick up dust, debris, and other particles from the mattress ensure that you cover all of the surface area.

You can lighting-sprinkle baking soda over the memory foam. This will help to absorb any liquids and odours which may be inside the memory foam. Lightly rub the baking soda into the memory foam and leave for 1 hour. After 1 hour, vacuum the memory foam thoroughly to ensure that the majority of the baking soda has been removed. Then flip over and repeat on the opposite side.

If the memory foam is free from odors or stains, move straight to step three.

Step Two. Deep Cleaning

Remove Stains from Memory Foam

When trying to remove stains, we recommend spot cleaning, using a dash of laundry detergent and water in a bucket – Do not soak. We would refer to this as deep cleaning. Only deep clean memory foam if there has been a spill or accident. Use a damp cloth and blot the stained area.

If the stain has not gone, you can sprinkle boric acid on the area, and then keep blotting it till it’s gone. If the stain is from a pet accident, you can try an enzymatic pet stain cleaner. Apply the cleaner, and then let it sit for 15 minutes or so.

Once it’s dry, vacuum once more to remove any chemicals which may be left.

Remove Odours From Memory Foam

Sometimes stains can cause the memory foam to have a unpleasant smell. To help remove these odours, start by vacuuming and spray-cleaning the memory foam as featured above, and then sprinkle it with baking soda. Let it sit overnight or for at least eight hours before vacuuming the baking soda away.

Step Three. Freshen Up

Don’t forget the other side side of the memory foam. If necessary, repeat the previous steps.

Do not put the memory foam pillow or mattress topper back to your bed unless it’s completely dry. It’s best to give the memory foam a full 24 hours (after a deep clean) to ensure it’s completely dry.

To finish up, you can use a gentle laundry detergent mixing one part detergent and the rest warm water. Fill a spray bottle then spray the entire mattress lightly. Don’t soak the foam, but keep your spray bottle moving as you spray. This will help to freshen up your memory foam pillow and or mattress topper.
